Description

This sub sandwich for parties feeds a crowd! Giant party sub loaded with deli meat, cheese, veggies, and signature spread. Perfect for game day!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 French bread loaf (1718 inches, about 17.4 oz)
  • 1 lb. sliced roasted turkey
  • 1 lb. sliced roast beef
  • 56 American cheese slices
  • 56 green lettuce leaves
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, sliced and patted dry
  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles (sweet, dill, or sweet and spicy)

For the Signature Spread:

  • 1 cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp. red wine vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F. Wrap the French bread loaf in aluminum foil and place in the oven for 15 minutes to warm. Remove and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  2. While bread is warming, make the signature spread: In a small bowl, combine mayo, Dijon mustard, honey, smoked paprika, and red wine vinegar. Stir well and set aside.
  3. Slice the French bread in half lengthwise. Using your hands or a spoon, scoop out some of the soft bread from the top half of the loaf to create space for fillings and prevent the sandwich from being too bready. (Save the bread for breadcrumbs!)
  4. Pat the tomato slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  5. Begin layering on the bottom half of the bread:
    • Spread half of the signature spread on the bottom
    • Layer cheese slices
    • Add roasted turkey slices
    • Add roast beef slices
    • Layer tomato slices
    • Add red onion slices
    • Add pickles
    • Top with lettuce leaves
  6. Spread the remaining signature spread on the cut side of the top bread half. Place on top of the lettuce to close the sandwich.
  7. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the sub on a slight diagonal into 6-8 portions (depending on how large you want the sandwiches).
  8. Serve immediately, or wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Make-Ahead: Assemble up to 4 hours before serving. Wrap tightly and refrigerate. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Feeding a Crowd: One sub feeds 10-12 people as an appetizer. For 20-25 people, make 2 subs.
  • Bread Options: Italian bread, ciabatta, or hoagie rolls all work great!
  • Kid-Friendly: Use only turkey and cheese, skip onions/pickles, and use honey mustard instead of the signature spread.
