I feel that cooking shows and some food blogs out there seem very domestic. Most bloggers (the ones I follow) are run by housewives, stay-at-home moms, or couples with children. Even most of the kitchen shows, that I love, like Martha Stewart, Barefoot Contessa, The Pioneer Woman, The Neely’s, and Trisha Yearwood demonstrates a particular perception that can be considered domestic. Do not misunderstand me, there is nothing wrong with these women or living a domestic lifestyle, but I want show how, regardless of your career title or family status, that cooking can still be fun for both men and women and “sexy” at the same time.
When I started my food blog, I came up with the tagline “Food.Citylife.Sex” because those three components were going to be the niche to my blog. I was a young girl…wait..wait….wait….I AM a young girl that lives in the city who loves to cook and enjoys having dialogue about relationships, love, and other topical areas under the umbrella of sex. However, after careful thought and consideration, I thought the first slogan, although was great, was somewhat confusing about what type of blog this was. I started to feel concerned of what people thought about the blog and if they really understood where I was going. So I thought about ways I could change my slogan to make it easier for it to translate where people would “get it”, stay true to myself, first, and still be combine “Food.Citylife.Sex” concept as the foundation for my blog. That is where I came up with a more simplified slogan: “A City Girl Making Cooking Look Sexy”. Pretty easy to understand right? I think so.
Sexy means something excessively over sexed or sexually exciting. However, I am not trying to make cooking about sex. I want that to be clear. I am a God-fearing woman who honors herself and want to respect every person that comes to my blog. Therefore, when I say sexy I mean how it is defined on Dictionary.com, “excitingly appealing”. I want my blog to be referred to in the same tone and context when someone would say, “Those shoes are sexy. or That car is sexy.” I want cooking to be more appealing to the people of my generation and people of all walks of life, by showing how being in the kitchen doesn’t mean you have to be there by obligation, being in the kitchen means that you can still have your career, time to yourself, wear your stilettos, go out with your friends, and still have a life . I am unmarried, single, no children, yet I love getting down in the kitchen. But I do not mirror Martha Stewart or Ree Drummond’s life style. In fact, I consider myself Beyoncé meets Martha Stewart! I love wearing high heels, looking hott, and really enjoy fashion and makeup.
There you have it! No more sex, just sexy. My blog is stilled called Brown Sugar and although my slogan has changed what I talk about has not. I am still going to write inspirational articles about love and relationships to offer different perspectives and continue to post wonderful, easy, and delicious recipes that is suitable for any lifestyle. I hope this isn’t too confusing, but I was starting to feel a bit confused on what I was doing myself and if I was confused, I’m sure some of you were confused as well. Thank you for believing in me and thank you for the trust and support!
Love you Sugar Babies!
