Every year in Cincinnati, OH, there is a festival called the “Taste of Cincinnati”. It is almost similar to the “Taste of Chicago” but much smaller, from what I hear. For those of you who are not familiar with either one of these festivals, “The taste” is basically a social function where some of the best restaurants, food vendors, and caters around the city get together and share some of their specialty foods and dishes. It is a great opportunity to find a new place to eat by sampling some of their delicious food for cheap before you pay for an expensive meal. I was surprised to see that most of the places that I visited I have never seen or heard of before. So, I tried a few places. I am trying to keep up my lean-voluptuous figure, but still a girl gotta eat!
Here are some of the places that were there:
Batch 19
Down Under
Eddie’s BBQ
Mahogany’s Soul Food
Habenero Mexican Grill
I went with my mother to “The Taste” and she is made me feel like a fat pig because I was the only one really trying stuff. She is counting her “points”. BOLOGNA!!! I like to say bologna, which is pronounced ba-lo-ney, ba-lag-na. It sounds more fun that way. So I say again, BA-LAG-NA to the Weight Watcher points!
Yea…um…Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches just sounds and looks like something bad. It didn’t even look good to us. It was a heart attack on a plate. Did I mention that it was also dusted with powdered sugar? TOO MUCH!!!
I am a baker before I am a cook so I looked through to see who had some of the best baked goods there. There were many options to choose from but I decided to try Queen City Cookies. I had their vanilla cupcake with strawberry butter cream icing and shortbread cookies. DEL-ISH! I was so upset that I never knew about this place. The icing on the cupcake was wonderful. It tasted like an actual strawberry to me and the shortbread cookie was rich and buttery. Just like I like my shortbread. You have to try them!
The Taste of Cincinnati is hosted every year on Memorial Day weekend. If you didn’t go this year, you have to go next year and come with an appetite, ready to try a variety of food, and listen to some cool music.
