I think I died and went to heaven.
So I’ve heard of adding coffee to chocolate when your baking to enhance the flavor of chocolate. However, I never thought about just pouring coffee on top of chocolate. Have you? Apparently, this concept was a no-brainer to the Italians. With the wonderful food that has originated from that country, I am not surprised they would pour espresso on top of gelato and call is Arrogato. Doesn’t that just sound sexy? Say it with me…Ar-ro-gato. Saying it just makes me hungry.
So, I saw this idea on some cooking show a few times. I never considered trying it because I am not a coffee drinker. However, I recently saw it again on another cooking show (I seriously can’t remember, which one) and I said to myself, “Self, you should try it”. I wasn’t too keen of the idea of hot coffee on gelato, but I kind of figured, if you like latte’s then there really isn’t much difference. The only problem with that idea is that I don’t like latte’s. I know that many of you are wondering how I could not like coffee and let me give you my main reason. It’s because it makes my stomach hurt and my teeth feel dirty after I drink it. It’s not the flavor, its how it makes me fee physically. But, I believe I found a new way to love it.
With this whole Arrogato thing, I thought it would be amazing to just add something that would absorb the ice cream and the espresso. Immediately I thought of brownies. I basically made a Brownie Arrogato Sundae. Simply amazing! To make it even better, I adding some whipped cream and topped it off with some extra coffee granules. However, what I was thinking is that you can garnish this sundae with chopped chocolate covered espresso beans or shaved chocolate. If you have an Italian themed dinner party or dinner for two, this idea is quick and easy to make. You can buy brownies that has already been made, buy your favorite brand of gelato, and the cooking you have to do is brew some espresso! I know, I know….I keep giving you all these easy ideas that just makes you fall in love with me every time.
