Make things simple this Thanksgiving with a cake that requires minimal prep and lots of fall flavor. Just dump the ingredients in a baking dish and wait for an amazing dessert to serve.
I am all about shortcuts and easy solutions in the kitchen – especially these days when anything simple and stress-free feels like a welcome change of pace. That’s why I often rely on canned ingredients to help cut down on meal prep. As a working mom, I don’t have time to always build a meal from scratch, and having canned goods on hand can be very helpful when you are wanting something quick and easy – not to mention delicious and comforting like this Apple Spice Dump Cake.
Making this cake is simple. The recipe requires only a few simple ingredients, just like my Cherry Lemon Dump Cake recipe, and two of those ingredients come ready to use and no prep required: canned apple pie filling and cake mix.
All you do is take two cans of apple pie filling, add a little apple pie spice, top it off with Spiced Cake mix combined with cream cheese and butter, and bake! Yes, it is that simple. If you would like, you can also add some chopped pecans or walnuts to this cake to make it more festive. The truth of the matter is canned apple pie filling is what makes this dump cake amazing. I like mine served warm with ice cream on top.
You may not know it, but there are many benefits to having canned goods in your pantry – not just because they can be key in making delicious and comforting recipes like this one, but because they also add value, convenience, and nutrition to your meals. Canned foods’ iron-clad container helps lock in nutrients while also keeping food safe and shelf-stable, so you don’t have to worry about wasting food that’s gone bad.
Did you know most Americans throw away around 15-20% of the fresh fruits and vegetables they purchase every year? And here’s another canned food bonus – you don’t have to worry about wasting the package either. Metal cans are endlessly recyclable, meaning they can be recycled again and again, forever – just one more reason to feel good about using cans.
Now, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for quick and easy comfort-food dishes you can feel good about – no matter what your holiday looks like this year. So be sure to have your favorite canned goods on hand, including the canned apple pie filling you’ll need for this super simple and delicious Apple Spice Dump Cake.

I love this apple cake, it looks delicious and with spices, it should be full of flavors. I’d wish to try it in a vegan version, what would you recommend, yogurt or soft tofu to replace the cheese, please?
Nicole Nared-Washington says
Hello. I am not knowledgeable about what vegan replacement you could use. I’m sorry :-(.

Just threw everything in the pan gave it a stir and in little time a delicious moist decadent chocolate cake! I love your version with the spices, apple sauce and yum creamcheese! Well done and so easy! Thanks for sharing! I agree about using cans very planet friendly!
