One of the many things I enjoyed when I went to Baton Rogue, LA was a delicious dessert called Honey Bun cake. Ordinarily, I do not like Honey Buns, period. I think they are gross. Yea, yea, yea…I know I’m weird. Now knowing this fact about me, imagine my thought when I was told about this Honey Bun Cake. I wasn’t jumping through hoops to try it. Nevertheless, it was free and I had nothing to lose.
Here is something interesting, I do not like actual Honey Buns. I think they are gross. In my opinion, Honey Buns have no flavor and the actual bread or bun is kind of dry. However, the kids in my neighborhood as I was growing up loved them! Kids would buy a Honey Bun, Funyuns, and Tahitian Treat Soda. I like Tahitian Treat but do not like Honey Buns or Funyuns.
The cake was “stupid good” (my new term). It was moist, sweet, and tasted nothing like a honey bun. I don’t know if this will make sense to you, but this is a very southern comforting cake. You know that comforting feeling that you have once you have eaten pound cake, 7 up cake, or Sock It To Me Cake? It is almost like that. This will definitely be a new cake for the holidays.
