Commonly Asked Questions
Yes. You will go through the recipe to prep as instructed, place it in your baking dish, and cover it with plastic wrap. You will then be able to bake in the oven the next day.
I am sure you can; however, I am curious to know how long it will take for the stuffing to cook through.
No. This stuffing recipe does not require eggs.
What can I use if I can’t access Stove Top dressing?
You can use seasoned bread cubes instead. You may need to add additional seasoning, such as garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, dried thyme, and rubbed sage.
Yes! You can substitute 6 cups of cubed day-old bread (white, sourdough, or cornbread work great). Since you’re losing the pre-mixed seasonings from Stove Top, add 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon dried sage, and salt and pepper to taste. You’ll also need to increase the liquid slightly – use 2 cups of chicken stock and 1 cup water instead of the amounts listed.
While turkey-flavored Stove Top works best, you can also use the Chicken, Herb, or Savory Herb varieties. Each will give a slightly different flavor profile, but will still be delicious with the apple and bacon additions!
It depends on your priorities! This recipe gives you 90% of the homemade flavor in a fraction of the time. The fresh apples, quality bacon, and aromatics elevate the Stove Top base so much that most guests can’t tell it started with a box mix. Perfect for busy home cooks!

I always make the same stuffing every year, but this recipe is tempting me to change it up! You can’t go wrong by adding bacon!!
There is so much flavor packed into this stuffing, I’m not sure I’m going to want to make or eat anything else for thanksgiving! Great recipe!
I absolutley love this flavor combination of sweet apples and smoky bacon. It’s such a different twist on stuffing and a great addtion to any holiday table.
Apartment living is cramping my Thanksgiving Dinner hostess style, Nicole. But, I will be serving this alongside our turkey this year. It looks amazing!
Thank you Marta!
Stuffing has to be my favorite part of the Thanksgiving! There are so many variations out there and I love trying something new each year. The apple and bacon is a fabulous combination of a little sweet and salty….definitely need to give it a try! Looks perfect!
I love the idea of apple and bacon in stuffing. So delicious. We don’t have Thanksgiving here in Italy but I love turkey at Christmas! You’ve inspired me to changing my normal stuffing recipe this year!
What a great stuffing recipe to try this Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for sharing. Making this soon.
WOW! I bet that apple bacon gives the stuffing a great depth of flavor. Stuffing or dressing is always a big hit with our family and they anxiously await it every year. I have a favorite recipe but I’m adding yours to my collection to serve with our crown pork. The apple bacon and herbs would compliment it perfectly.
Apple and bacon are such great flavors for a stuffing recipe! I would have never thought to add that to a stuffing recipe but I love it! Such a great idea!
This is flavourful stuffing with seasonal fruits such as apple looks so good, definitely going to try very soon. Brilliant share.
I can’t wait to try this recipe. Can I do it today and freeze it til Thanksgiving?
Sorry I didnt get to this before Thanksgiving, but yes you can freeze.
I have made this for Thanksgiving for the past 2 years!! It’s a huge hit!
This year I will be traveling and wondered if this could be made in a crockpot? If so, would I follow the exact same recipe and instead of putting it in the dish and oven, would I just put it in the crockpot to heat? Thank you in advance for your help on this and…
Thank you for a WONDERFUL recipe!
I think you should be fine and yes, I would make it the same way. You may find yourself needing to add chicken stock or water to keep it most as the heat will evaporate the moisture within the stuffing.
