Looking for a delicious and unique main dish for your holiday dinner? Look no further than this Bourbon and Cinnamon Glazed Ham! Made with brown sugar, bourbon, cinnamon, and a surprising ingredient – yellow mustard – this ham will impress your guests.
I am not the biggest ham eater but I love this ham recipe. Growing up, when I’d eat ham, it always seemed very salty and flavorless. Just salt. Now that I am older, I realize that the flavor of the ham comes from the vendor and the flavor you put into it. Placing sliced pineapples, maraschino cherries, and cloves into the ham is a great option, but this Bourbon and Cinnamon glaze is also a great alternative.
How to make this Bourbon Glazed Ham
Making this baked ham is quite easy.
Step 1: Make the bourbon glaze which includes bourbon, light brown sugar, and cinnamon, in a small saucepan. Placing this on a simmer allows the ingredients to become syrup.
Step 2: Once the syrup has cooled, pour it over the ham and in between the slices as well
Step 3: Rub the ham with yellow mustard first. The mustard helps the brown sugar caramelize and create that gorgeous crust outside the ham.
Step 4: Once you have coated the ham with mustard, you are going to place the ham in a roasting pan and sprinkle it with a little more brown sugar.
Step 5: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 145 Degrees.
Tips for making the best-baked ham
Although making a baked ham doesn’t require a lot of heavy lifting, there are some tips for making a really good baked ham:
Choose the right ham: You can choose from two types: fully cooked and partially cooked. If you choose a fully cooked ham, it only needs to be heated through. If you choose a partially cooked ham, it must be cooked until it reaches the required internal temperature of 145 degrees. You can check the temperature by using a meat thermometer.
Score the ham: Before cooking, use a sharp knife to score the ham in a diamond shapes pattern. This helps the glaze penetrate the ham and gives it a beautiful presentation.
Baste the ham: To keep it moist and flavorful, baste it with the glaze every 15-20 minutes while it cooks.
Let it rest: Once the ham is cooked, rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful ham.
