Ingredients for the Pretzel-Chocolate Chip Cookies
To create these deliciously addictive chocolate chip pretzel cookies that have a sweet and salty twist, you’ll need to gather a few key ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- All-purpose flour
- Baking soda
- Salt
- Unsalted butter
- Granulated sugar
- Light Brown sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Large eggs
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
- Pretzel sticks
Make sure all your ingredients are fresh and of good quality. You don’t want to compromise the taste of these amazing cookies by using stale ingredients.
Now that you have your ingredients ready, it’s time to move on to the next step: browning the butter. This process can seem intimidating but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Just follow my simple instructions, and you’ll have perfectly browned butter in no time!
Browning the Butter
This step is crucial in adding a rich nutty flavor to your cookies, elevating them from ordinary to extraordinary.
To begin, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently. As the butter melts, it will start to foam and then turn into a deep golden brown color with a nutty aroma. It’s important to keep an eye on the butter and not let it burn, so remove it from the heat once it has reached the desired color.
Allow the browned butter to cool for a few minutes before adding it to the cookie dough. The cooled butter will still be liquid but a bit thicker than melted butter. Don’t worry if there are browned bits at the bottom of your saucepan – those bits are the secret ingredient that will give your cookies a delicious nutty taste. However, I did strain the brown butter to remove some of the browned bits.
Now that you’ve browned your butter, it’s time to move on to the next step: mixing the dough. Get ready to combine all of your ingredients to create a mouthwatering dough that will be the base for your sweet and salty chocolate chip cookies.
Mixing the Dough
Combine the cooled browned butter and sugars in a large mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture is creamy and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Then, add in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract and continue to beat until the mixture is well combined.
Next, in a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Use a whisk to combine all the ingredients.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, beating well after each addition until the dough is thick and all ingredients are well combined. The dough should be slightly sticky but not overly wet.
Add the chopped pretzels, chocolate chips, or chunks and mix them into the cookie batter for an added crunch and a touch of saltiness and sweetness. The pretzels also make the cookies look more appealing with their unique shape and texture.
Baking and Serving
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop the dough onto the baking sheet using a cookie scoop or spoon, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart. Bake for 1approximatley 10 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve with a glass of milk and enjoy the delicious combination of sweet and salty!
Incorporating pretzels and browned butter into your chocolate chip cookie recipe may seem like a small change, but it can make a big difference in taste and texture. The combination of sweet and salty flavors creates a unique and addictive flavor. With just a few simple steps, you can elevate the classic treat to a new level of deliciousness.
