These Movie Theatre Popcorn Cookies are loaded with the most beloved snacks that you enjoy when you go to the movies all in one bite! These cookies are filled with buttered popcorn, chocolate chips, and M&M candies. They are perfect for snacking!
So, I was sitting on the couch, eating popcorn, talking on the phone and my mind was beginning to wonder. The popcorn was a bit on the salty side and I was thinking how I could really use something sweet. To me, one of the best sweet things to go along with some salty and buttery popcorn is Twizzlers! Then I thought, “naaaah”. I don’t want Twizzlers. I want something a bit different. Then….EUREKA! It hit me like a soda can. What about M&M’s?!
Aww man homie’s. There is nothing like eating popcorn and M&M’s at the same time. Its great! The more I thought about it I thought how logical it would be to make a popcorn chocolate chip cookie. SAY HUH, SAY WHAAAT!
There is something to be said about the combination of sweet and salty. And that something is “hot damn”. I love food that has different elements of flavors. Sweet, salty, spicy, and tangy. Those are the flavor senses you hope to experience when eating good food. But when it comes to cookies, the Popcorn Cookies (I’m calling them Movie Theatre Popcorn Cookies) definitely cover what you want in a cookie. Their soft, chewy, buttery, has a touch of salt from the popcorn, and sweet from the chocolate. Perfecto!
What’s in these Popcorn Cookies?
These “monster” like popcorn cookies consists of some simple and basic star ingredients:
- Butter
- Flour
- Sugar
- Egg
- Butter Popcorn
- Chocolate Chips
- M&M Chocolate Candies
All of the basic ingredients you need to make delicious cookies.
There isn’t anything really different from how you make any other cookie. You simply combine these ingredients, allow them to chill, and bake. You can taste the popcorn and the sweetness of the cookie, but one isn’t more overpowering than the other. They really work well together. I know it seems a bit wild to see popcorn in cookies, but I’m telling you that these are great cookies to make with or for your kids. They’re even great to make if you decide to do a movie night.

Commonly Asked Questions
No. You can use kettle popcorn or plain. I am not sure how caramel popcorn will work because it already has sugar on the outside and once it is placed in the oven, the heat may caramelize the sugar on the popcorn even more, possibly making the cookie to taste burnt. Feel free to try to see the outcome and if they come out just as great, let me know!
Yes, but you will want to stick to the measurements that are in the recipe. For instance, if you want to use peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips, that is fine as long as you stick to the same measurement. You don’t want this cookie to become too heavy in candies and popcorn because the cookie may not come out good.
I only keep baked goods in my house for no more than 7 days. Regardless if it is refrigerated or not. I’ve learned that after 7 days baked goods lose their flavor and/or become stale. However, some sources will say that you can keep cookies stored at room temperature for 2-3 weeks.
